2nd planned high carb day for this week
Food: Breakfast: cottage cheese with Hungarian salami (100 g cheese, 50 g salami) Lunch: whole wheat spaghetti w/pesto alla genovese and grated Parmesan cheese Snack (beach): shared a pear with DD Dinner (planned): pizza with mushrooms (thin crust, tomato sauce, mozzarella, mushrooms, oregano, Tabasco) Water = 16 cups; vitamin C drink Exercise: swimming (big waves today, so I chose breaststroke) = 2 x 15 minutes treading water w/baby = 30 minutes walking (uphill, pushing the stroller with the 8,6 kg baby + 2 heavy beach bags!) = 45 minutes According to Fitday = 142 grams of carbs (32%), 1666 calories, and 481 calories burned. I know the count for my 2nd high carb day this week is high, but I am proud of myself for four reasons today: 1) DH went to work early so we couldn't go to the beach in the morning like we planned to, but I suggested to him to drop us off on the beach before he goes to work and then we walked home (uphill, pushing the stroller with the 8.6 kg/19 lbs baby + 2 bags full of wet towels ;-) 2) when we came to the beach, my mother (who joined us) said she didn't have any lunch and invited us, but I wasn't hungry (had spaghetti an hour before) plus I knew about the planned pizza night, so I declined and just ordered water (that wouldn't have happened before, I'd ordered an ice cream at least!); 3) I didn't feel like going into the water the second time around, but I thought of how good this is for my health and the weight loss, so I went in; 4) on our way back home, I had to buy something so I stopped at the shop and contemplated asking my Mom to share an ice cream with me. The one that I thought of eating was only 80 grams (so it would be 40 grams/0.1 lbs) each, only vanilla bar covered w/chocolate, but I decided not to because I was aware of the planned pizza evening and the carb/caloric intake, and didn't want to add ice cream to that! This simply means that I'm *starting* to be more aware - and this makes me h appy and proud of myself - even though my mother criticized me on the beach that I look fat in my swimming suit (one piece, swimmer's style), that I have new stretch marks on the back on my knees, and that my T-shirt makes my waist look thin (oh my God - did she give me a compliment? g) but this only makes my butt look wider... sigh Elly breastfeeding mom of a 10 mo, following the balanced low carb WOE Mid-July 2004: 195.8 / 185.9 / mini-goal by August 20th: 184.8 (to 187 lbs- reached) sometime in the (distant) futu 150 lbs |

3) I didn't feel like going into the water the second time around, but I thought of how good this is for my health and the weight loss, so I went in; I do this too and it's a real process. Yesterday I had ridden my bike (the long way) over to the place I work to just check a couple things and ended up spending an hour unpacking and relocating a big shipment of large (heavy!) Whichford pottery. Seemed like plenty of exercise for the day. But after supper the sun was shining and there was rain forecasted for today. I thought I'd take a short easy spin around the neighborhood. Once I got warmed up I thought What the heck? and started really making it count. Came home sweaty, ready for a shower and knowing I had made the right choice. 4) on our way back home, I had to buy something so I stopped at the shop and contemplated asking my Mom to share an ice cream with me. This is why planning meals ahead is so helpful. Once I know what the day's menu is, I know whether I have room for a peach or a couple chocolate chip cookies. No *accidentally* going over my allotment! Mothers are strange - mine was - don't try to figure them out. You have your own daughter now, enjoy the irony. And well done remembering that you weren't hungry - that's usually the issue for me. 3) I didn't feel like going into the water the second time around, but I thought of how good this is for my health and the weight loss, so I went in; 4) on our way back home, I had to buy something so I stopped at the shop and contemplated asking my Mom to share an ice cream with me. Again, well done. I bet you found, didn't you, that as soon as you came out of the shop you forgot about wanting the ice? I did that yesterday; we went on a river-boat, and when we arrived at the pier, there were several concessions selling ice-cream, and I thought I wanted one, but didn't have one. When we left the pier, I forgot I'd wanted one! Then on the way back, my husband offered our guests and me an ice, but our guests said "No, thank you" and, bearing in mind we'd eaten out at lunchtime and were planning to eat out that evening, I did the same. Again, once we were back on the boat, I forgot I'd wanted one, and was happy to buy some water to drink! This simply means that I'm *starting* to be more aware - and this makes me h appy and proud of myself - even though my mother criticized me on the beach that I look fat in my swimming suit (one piece, swimmer's style), that I have new stretch marks on the back on my knees, and that my T-shirt makes my waist look thin (oh my God - did she give me a compliment? g) but this only makes my butt look wider... sigh Mothers!!!! There are times you can't win..... and I shouldn't be a bit surprised if your daughter wasn't saying the same things in 20 years' time (I know mine does! What's more, she gangs up with her grandmother against me, from time to time, and then they giggle..... how come her grandmother can treat *her* like an adult, and tell me off when I don't, but she can't treat *me* like one?) -- Annabel - "Mrs Redboots" 90/88.5/80kg |
