Hi,
I'm on my 3rd day of dieting.
Got 50-75 lbs to lose.
So far so good.
Got on the scale today.
It was 4 lbs down from yesterday.
I haven't seen that in a long time.

How tall are you? 75 pounds on someone 6'5 looks very different than on
someone who is 4'3.

What diet are you trying?

4 pounds less than yesterday? Is your scale defective? How many pounds
less than two days ago?

4 lbs in one day is all water (or crap) loss.

I hope you have a thick skin! This "changing your life" thing isn't for
weenies. We relentlessly hunt down false beliefs and skewer them. We
don't allow you a shred of denial. People making excuses is chum in the
water to us.

OTOH, we help you face reality, we help you solve seemingly
insurmountable challenges, and we tell you the real lowdown facts on how
to do this. (Hint: you're going to have to eat less and exercise more
for the rest of your life.)

If you can handle that, then welcome.

Yes, when you initiate a diet, especially a restrictive one, the scales
can show dramatic loses. Unfortunatley, often it is mostly water. I'm
sure you know, nutritionists and doctors recommend slow weight loss,
perhaps no more than 2 pounds a week. I'm being a little hypocritical
here, since I also lost a lot more than that initially. Sometimes, once
you begin a new regimine and have strong goals in mind, it is necessary
to overdo it a bit. Don't get discouraged if you find that you regain
most of the weight. Calories DO count. So does exercise, even if you
haven't really lost 4 pounds of fat, but only water. You will
eventually lose 4 pounds of fat and many more pounds of it, if you keep
with some/any reasonable weight loss regimine. Good luck. dkw

More fruit, more vegetables, less protein. Slightly more carbs.
Healthy carbs. Low sodium for my blood pressure.
I am following guidelines from the book Eat Right-Electrolyte.
It is a 2001 DASH-1500 diet. I using the software DietPower 4.0 to
record my food and track how I'm doing.
I ideally want protein 20% fat 20 % carb 60%.
My protein has been way too high. So I need to cut back on that.
Not sure if the fat % is right.
I want to include olive oil in my diet on a daily basis.
I want to learn to be responsible with carbs i ingest.
I'm 5 ft 7.5 inches. I'm 53. My start weight in 225 lbs. This morning
I weighed in at 221lbs. It's a brand new diet. Tomorrow is my 3rd day,
2nd day with the software I'm using. I need to get consistent with the
time I weigh myself and what I'm wearing when I get weighed.

Well I just had a colonoscopy on Thursday. So maybe some of the
effects are from that. I had to be on a clear diet and I was drinking
a lot of chicken broth which has a lot of sodium. I dropped the sodium
real low in the last couple of days so it probably is the water weight
leaving me. Knowing I had the control for a liquid diet for one day
seems to be helping me to get myself off to a good start with my
eating now.
