11/11.

Was it just me or did Elijah Wood look just a trifle *****ed off* not to be
holding something when everybody from the movie got together onstage at the
end?

Of course. And you know in the collection of accents being spoken last
night, we Yanks seemed to have been in such a minority that at one point I
wondered if Hollywood had surreptitiously been made a member of the
Commonwealth.

Basically 3 years worth of awards in one night. I was worried that a
fantasy film would just be ignored. Plenty of great films have been
ignored at the Oscars.

I was disappoited that none of the actors got recognized. I would
haved liked to have see Ian McKellan win when he was nominated two
years ago. He was crucial to the films.

The Lord of the Rings transcends mere Fantasy as a genre. I've tried
to like fantasy, with no success, but LOTR is in a class of its own.

While fantasy in general is just not my cup of tea, these movies have
inspired me to read LOTR for the first time in my life, and I've not
been able to put it down. A 1000+ page volume and I am hooked.
I own both editions of FOTR and TTT as well, and plan on the same when
ROTK comes out.

I never thought I would like LOTR because I didn't like "The Hobbit"
very much, and everyone kept telling me I "had to read it" before
LOTR. I had previously figured that since I didn't care for The
Hobbit, it would stand to reason that I'd not like LOTR. Well for me
it is the other way around. I have re-read The Hobbit, and discovered
that I like it, because I am enjoying LOTR.

Even before LOTR became popular in the movie theaters, in every book
store I've been in, Tolkien had a section of his very own...

I for one am glad that the Oscars went to a very deserving film.
YAY!!!!

What's the carb count of lembas? At glance at it hints it is very
high carb.

I've always envisioned it as something like nan, but moreso.

Well, since we know you can live on it alone, it must have a good
amount of protein and some fats, as well as nutrients. Possible quite
a lot of fat, for sustained energy. It probably is pretty high carb,
but I hardly think that's dangerous when eaten by people who spend all
day scrabbling over craggy mountain peaks, or running full-tilt after
packs of Orcs. I'd think they'd need as many calories as they can
get.

(The actual props were some kind of shortbread, and they said that
practically the whole cast and crew were eating them.)
