Cholesterol
Hi,
I've just come back from the Doctors haven had a blood cholesterol test.. he asked if I was a heavy drinking as when I took the test I said "NO".. He said the blood tests show that I drink a lot....? The thing is I'm 35 and have been T-total since I was about 21 years old..? I don't even like the taste of alcohol and swear that all I drink is lots of water and cups of tea with no-milk..? I'm having a re-test on this coming Monday, but what and how would that happen. Thanks |

Thanks If your doctor can't or won't explain that to your satisfaction, you need to get another doctor if you can. You can't have confidence in the treatment the doctor prescribes unless s/he can make you understand it. Say so. Doctors sometimes need their patients to educate them. |

The thing is I'm 35 and have been T-total since I was about 21 years old..? I had an elevated liver-related blood test result in my latest blood test (it is a part of the standard blood test here). The nurse who was screening my results for anything that might require a physician's attention asked me about my alcohol habits, and accepted my answer that I drink one or two beers a month in average with a shrug, commenting that it's probably my obesity that's causing the result. Of course, my elevation was fairly minor, and liver result abnormalities can also point to various health problems, some of them serious, that are not related to alcohol or obesity. The obligatory disclaimer: I am not a medical professional |
