Nope. Strengthening your quads will help stabilize your knees. Trust
me on that one!

You're very welcome, sweetie.

But thanks and kudos have to go to the churl in the puce coat, whose
then-fiance created the program for me (took me a while to remember
how to use it, though!).

For your arthritis:

Few days ago I happened to read about an enzyme product called
"vitalzym" that is supposed to be very good for arthritis.
http://www.vitalzym.com/testimonial.htm
http://miracleii-4u.com/vitalzym-practitioners.htm
Maybe you can give it a try. One of the helpful ingredient in it is an
enzyme called Serratiopeptidase. Another is Papain. They reduce pain,
swelling, and inflammation, and eats away scar tissues.

Sedonna Labs makes a product called ArthroZyme that contains only
Serratiopeptidase.

I also heard FYI (For Your Inflammation) made by Garden of Life can
help with rebuilding cartilage and reduce inflammation. It contains
the chicken cartilage that you mentioned, plus enzymes. But maybe
taking the chicken cartilage by injection is better than taking the
pill.

Long time ago I think I heard high doses of pharmaceutical grade fish
oil can also help with arthritis (like 10-20 grams a day, can be
expensive). And some herbs like tumeric are anti-inflammatory.

I also watched a video from my library called "Arthritis: A Natural
Approach With Gary Null". I think it has some good info in it.

If you try these, please let us know if they work for you. Good luck!

Free weights are dumbells. Real light ones to start with. Weight training is
brilliant because it builds muscle, which needs more energy than fat, so it
helps you lose weight and get fit. You're not going to look like Arnold
Schwartzeneger - women don't have the testosterone - but if you stick to it
long enough, you'll get a really nice shape to your body. I really like
having muscles instead of fat now, even though there's still a long way to
go!

The idea of your PT is that he ought to know enough to start you very, very
slowly and take everything only at the pace you can manage. You don't need
to raise your heart rate doing weight training, or work up a sweat, at the
beginning - the idea is that your muscles are tired but not sore at the end
of a session, then you skip a day to give them time to recover before you
train the same muscles again.

You can train your quads without putting strain on your knee - and once your
quads are stronger, your knee will be stronger too. And all the time you'll
be losing weight. Total win-win - so long as you take it very easy, and
don't do more than you can manage.

Nicky.

Thank you for the information Nicky. I admit I'm ignorant when it comes
weight training. Now tell me this... I'm going in for an hour session 3
times a week on MWF it is $75 a week. Is that reasonable? I called
Fitness West and they charge $50 a session so $150 a week. I thought
that was astronomical but then again what do I know??
Thanks again, Laureen

It's one of the things they don't teach us! I was amazed when I started
showing my husband some of the exercises I do, he said he learnt them at
school - must've been when we were doing netball... That sumptuous.com site
is brilliant if you do get in to it, because she really knows what she's
talking about, and it's aimed at women.

No idea of the cost - but the 3 times a week bit is good. An hour might be a
bit much to start with, but maybe not - you need to stretch and warm up
first, then maybe do some weights or whatever you can manage in the way of
cardio, then cool down. Do be careful not to overdo it. Your eye candy might
be more useful setting you limits rather than pushing you on to start with!
