Many thanks Nicky. That's a keeper for sure.

Well, waaaay before I started weight training, the quack had me flexing the
muscle at the front top of the knee several times a day.

Ok, just to check - I believe I can do this easily enough as long as I
am standing. If I am sitting, I don't seem to be able to isolate the
muscle. Sound believable?

In the same way
you're supposed to do 50 pelvic squeezes, he wanted me to do 50 quad flexes
every time I thought about it! After a couple of months of doing this (no
weight loss or other increase in exercise), the feeling I had that my knee
was going to bend backwards and break, or dislocate, or other extremely
unwanted thing - just went away. I suspect persuading a quack to refer you
to a physio for a more targetted routine might do the same job a lot
quicker.

Well, my knees aren't in that bad shape; not as bad as you describe
yours, anyway. But they are suffering & creaking & uncomfortable from
having to bear too much weight - not just mine; add a 30 lb toddler to
the mix - and I don't feel able to do squats any more :-(((

Then I discovered diabetes, and learned that weight training was a Damn Good
Idea, and started reading sites like sumptous.com, or Kathy Smith's books,
as something other than fiction; and learnt that, from being someone who
couldn't drive more than half an hour because of knee pain, I can now do
several kinds of squats without a twinge. I found towel squats the easiest -
wrap a towel around the bannisters, hold on to the ends like mad, and
pretend you're sitting down. Get your thighs horizontal, stand up, repeat
until you're feeling tired; try again in a couple of days. Dead good for bg
levels, plus ongoing weight loss and your leg muscles!

Fab. I'll get on it!

Sure. I've just been practicing thinking about it whilst typing, and I'm
bouncing the laptop nicely - maybe you could use your daughter, see if you
can bounce her without raising your legs at all : ) But I'm sure it
wouldn't matter whether you were standing or not.

Nicky.

Rosie, the world is a better place right now LOL!!!!!! Im so GALD I did
this. And I have made it 44 days and die like Cubit thought I would
!!!!!!!

My knee pain hasnt stopped me form exercising either. I dope up before
I do it. I was able to get the first of three Synvisc injections into
my knee on Monday. It angered my knee and it actually has been worse as
far as pain but I am hoping in the long run, I will soon see some pain
relief!

Thanks for your never ending support
