Folks,

My news server seems to be missing a lot of posts again. I'm seeing posts in
people's replies that never made it to my server, including quite a few that
seem to be replies to my own postings.

If I seem to have ignored a reply, please don't think I ignored you. I may
not have seen it. I'm going to go look through Google to see what else I
missed.

Jenny, I switched to individual.net as my news server. It's free and
much better than most. You might want to write to them for an account,
just in case. Their info is at http://news.individual.net/

Jenny, you can unsubscribe to this group. Then close Outlook Express, or
whatever you mail set up is. Re-open your mail server and then go to
low-carb again and resubscribe. It usually will get you caught back up. I
used to have to do that now and again, but my news is working well now.

Curt,

The problem isn't with Outlook Express but with my ISP, RCN. It's been
having a lot of trouble the past couple weeks connecting to its name server
and, apparently, dealing with news messages. The messages show up
eventually, but sometimes a couple days late.

Jenny, that's why I use news.individual.net

I am on my way out the door but would be happy to speak about ISPs
later. Note, mine is rcn too....

There is no one central news server. Postings go from server to server
over a period of time. The fact that your post made it to someone else's
server isn't a guarantee that their post will make it to yours.

The best you can do is pick a server that is well connected, and have a
backup server that has different connections. And since you can't tell
what servers are connected to what without mapping from the verbose
headers, it's rarely worth doing more than guessing about how well
connected a server is.

I use two servers to gather posts, BellSouth and news.individual.net,
and instruct my newsreader to discard dupes. Lately I'm experiencing
the same problem Jennie is - missing posts. In fact, the original in
this thread is one of them! Annoying. I have no one in my KF,
although I do have several words/phrases in the global kill filter.
None of them are in Jennie's post.

Take care,
Carmen

Hmmm. I do occasionally miss posts. I have a number of
servers--crud, I just went off news.individual.net to remind
myself of what once is. (Luckily this post stayed behind even
though I lost that screen.) I started signing up for other when
rcn had a major problem. I forget when that was. Then I just
stuck with cis.dfn.de and now news.individual.net I resort to
others when one has an obvious problem--and always swear I will
keep the posts pared down. That lasts about a day though.

I posted about low carb liquors yesterday.

It is completely gone

I did find an to it that someone has posted outside of the string, but I
sure wish I could have seen the other replies...

Oh well
