Where Did Everybody Go?

I was here for a number of years, but have been AWOL. Now the newsgroup is
primarily spam and not many LC posters. Where did everyone go?

This group, like many others here and also on yahoo groups, has lost
its moderator, who has lost interest and left the group to be
infiltrated by spammers. This situation is hopeless. Hopefully someone
will start a new group. There are probably active groups on this topic
at yahoo groups, if not here. Good luck. I've been on low carb for 8
years straight. This is my first time back in two years.

Nope, wrong. This is a usenet group that *never* had a moderator. Back
in the day, every ISP had its own news server, but now most have given
up on usenet completely. Google groups is a ****-poor interface for
usenet, but, because most ISPs have given up on usenet, only people who
are very dedicated to specific groups have made alternative
arrangements. You see the same drop-off in participation all across the
news hierarchy. And a lot of former newsgroup participants are now
involved with blogs and message-boards.

There never was a moderator here, but...you both say you have been gone, as
have so many others, and I daresay that the reason that spammers have taken
over is because people left and stopped posting. :-)

From your own postings, you can see that you are the problem. If you
don't reward beauty, it goes away.

Certainly, your newsreader didn't give you a tabla rasa, when you opened
alt.support.diet.low-carb. While it does seem like migration season for
spammers through the site, above the noise, there are still
conversations going on. You help not a whit by filling the site with
your ****ing and moaning about the way things used to be.

If you don't have anything to contribute, then at least don't be part of
the problem.

So, do you have anything to say about low-carb dieting that doesn't
require a credit card number? Hmmm . . . ?

but there are a lot of participants.
