Meeting ASD - Andy and The Historian
I met Andy yesterday at a cafe in the Raddison Hotel in Valley Forge,
PA. We had a pleasant two hours conversation on diet, exercise, motivation, and ASD, although I fear I talked too much. Andy's as good natured as his newsgroup posts, a rugged outdoorsman type. He carries his excess weight well, and had I not been reading his posts wouldn't have guessed he was overweight. I'm glad he's posting at ASD, and I was happy to have met him. Neil 385/345/200 |

I'll be in Philadelphia later this year and hope we can arrange a meeting of members at that time. If you re-work that La-Z-Boy be sure to post pictures! Beverly |

It's a bicycle race you mentioned. I'll go out of my way to give you a push to get you started and meet you at victory lane (is that what they call it?). There's a bicycle race I hope to get in shape for on May 21 to help a center for the blind. So i gotta get my bike fixed, get a route map and start pedalling around portions of the 13-mile route. I've seen them from the sponsor's booth as they take off in their skin-tight zero bodyfat shapes. I don't expect to come in first, but i expect to finish!!! Keep reminding us about September, as the time nears and we can meet up before your launch and after you land! OK? An aside: Philadelphia hosts one of the most noted pro cycling races in the world. I went down and watched them. Those cyclists don't attend a.s.d. The BUMS!!! All the best, Andy |

It's great that you two got together. As Beverly mentioned, she and I met this summer and on the same trip I met up with Chris and two other women from ASD who used to post here but don't anymore. It was a terrific experience for me and my DH. -- the volleyballchick |

It was until I read the "Brokeback Mountain" joke another poster made. :-( As Beverly mentioned, she and I met this summer and on the same trip I met up with Chris and two other women from ASD who used to post here but don't anymore. It was a terrific experience for me and my DH. I've generally had a good experience meeting people I've corresponded with on the newsgroups. The only exception was a nutcase from the chess newsgroups named Sam Sloan - but then what else could I have expected from the chess groups? Neil 385/345/200 |

I've also had mostly good experiences from meeting people I've dealt with online. Many moons ago I was quite active on IRC and our channel had a major meet-up of 35 people from 12 states, 2 provinces, and one from overseas - it was the best 3-day party I ever threw. That was back in the old days of Internet though, when all you could get was UNIX shell accounts. Nowadays since any moron can get online I would be a lot more cautious though I knew Bev, Chris, and the others were safe -- the volleyballchick |
