Day 21 of 100 Days
Day 21 and 8 pounds gone.
I got back from my hike to South Sisters 11 pm last night. I didn't think I'd make it to the top – last time I tried ( year ago), I had some health problems. But none yesterday, other than overweight, and I slowly chugged to the top, expecting to turn around every 15 minutes or so, but I never did turn around. Terrific time, though. (My friend who is really into this kind of thing set up the hike. He wants to take his daughter up Mt. Whitney in September and this was a warm-up for that.) This morning when I got on my scale I weighed 228, so eight pounds are still gone. (On Friday, before we left, I weighed the same thing, but Comcast was out in our neck of the woods and I couldn't get my little update onto the group.) Perhaps several hundred people went to the top of South Sisters yesterday in the course of the day. With only two exceptions – myself and a guy who was in his 20's – no one appeared to be at all overweight. All very healthy, fit, and only about 20% or so of them were over 40. I'm sure I was the worst-fit person that made it up there yesterday. I was reading a Latin quote on Friday (from the back of a Webster's II dictionary while waiting for my friend to wrap up his work), and it said (in Latin – but I don't remember the exact Latin phrase): "Do what you're doing!" And the interpretation of this phrase is, "Focus on what you're doing." Maintain concentration, etc. In coming down off Sisters, I reminded myself of this phrase many, many times, because of the loose scree underfoot, the tripping, sliding hazards, etc. (My butt is mildly sore today as I fell on it twice yesterday, and I fell about 5 to 8 other times as well.) I'm going today for under 1000 calories, as I try to continue "doing what I'm doing." And I'm reminding myself that in order to get somewhere, perhaps all one has to do is to keep pecking away, bit by bit, and then – miracle of miracles! – one gets there over time. Anyway, I hope everyone has a great weekend and a great week ahead! Let's all "Do what we're doing!" and if we're good enough for long enough, we'll be a heck of a lot closer to our health goals! Yours, Caleb 236/228/190 Day 21 |
