Default Diabetes Epidemic and Obesity Linked

Another news story today decrying the rise in diabetes in Americans. Projected
that 1 in 3 born in 2000 will become diabetic during their lifetime. The story
then said obesity is to blame for the rise in diabetes. I happen to agree with
this theory. What I don't understand is why, knowing that insulin is "the fat
storing hormone", do doctors and nutritionists continue to advocate a low
fat/high carb diet which results in high insulin production. It's like they
know 1 + 1 = 2 but they just keep insisting the answer is 3.

I don't know whether diabetes is caused by obesity or high carbohydrate
intake. Which one comes first? I personally became obese (actually, still
am) but also developed insulin resistance due to high carb intake. Did my
high carb intake cause me to become insulin resistant and then obese or did
I become obese then insulin resistant?

It's all a dollars and cents world. It took low fat awhile to take off.
Manufacturers found ways to make low or zero fat substitutes fairly easily,
more sugar and starch, and we just loved eating it all! WOW what a great
diet, we thought. Well low carb has been around since Atkins book of 1970 or
so. It's much harder for them to make good substitutes, because it's easier
for us to just eat meat and some veggies. Until they find a way to make
money with LC, with we are starting to finally see more and more everyday,
the world won't wake up to it. In the 60's we made our clothes look the way
we wanted.... old and worn in. Years later they started mass producing tie
dye, bleached out, stone washed because they finally figured out a way to
make money with it.
