Article - High-protein diets: Good for your waistline, bad for your stomach?
By Kelly James-Enger
Special to MSN ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- High-protein diets promise that if you cut back on carbohydrates, you'll shed pounds. As a result, millions of Americans are embracing popular high-protein plans like the Atkins and South Beach diets that limit carbs. But in their fervor to whittle their waistlines, dieters may not be considering the impact their new eating styles could have on their digestive systems as well. http://gerd.msn.com/GERDUp2004-14LowCarb.asp |

I can bring on acid reflux and IBS-like symptoms just by eating too many carbs. I always comment to them to try LC as it seems to eliminate those problems for a lot of people. |

Elite athletes (eg swimmers) consume much more protein than the average Atkins dieters. They don't seem to have major health problems. gtoomey |
