Trochanteric bursitis
I had assumed the excruciating, bilateral hip pain I had been
experiencing since I started fitness walking in May was arthritis. According to my doctor, whom I saw today, it's more likely bursitis. The key symptom, she said, was my complaint of pain on my hips so severe, it hurt to lie on either side and intefered with my sleep. So, I have a scrip for Voltaren and a referral to the orthopedics clinic. And an order to stop fitness walking. I can continue water aerobics. I can switch to the stationary bike and start strength training when the new gym opens next month. I can buy a real bike and pedal around the lake instead of walk. I can ride a real bike to the new gym. I'll adjust. As always, YMMV. Kasey 365/248/??? |

Sorry to hear about the bursitis but with your attitude and plans for alternate exercise I'm sure you'll be fine. Keep us posted on your progress. Beverly |

Then mine must be arthritis not bursitis because doing T'ai Chi and Tae Bo and lawn mowing and walking get rid of the pain. |

Interesting. Then mine must be arthritis not bursitis because doing T'ai Chi and Tae Bo and lawn mowing and walking get rid of the pain. I have arthritis in my wrists, right shoulder and left knee; I may have it in my hips as well, my doctor pointed out. X-rays at the orthopedic clinic might help clarify the diagnosis and treatment. The descriptions of bursitis I have since read on the Web match my symptoms. The pain eased somewhat when I substituted water aerobics for walking three days a week. And the pain got worse when I increased my land-based activity, such as dancing earlier this month. Fortunately, bursitis can go away. I need to follow my own oft-repeated advice and do what my doctor says. As always, YMMV. Kasey 365/248/??? |
