Default Diet Soda Does Make You Fat!

"Recent study show that drinking “diet” drinks, and specially diet
soda actually increase the risk of being overweight.

Here’s some findings from an 8-year University of Texas study that I
had read…

An excerpt from the study author:

“What didn’t surprise us was that total soft drink use was linked to
overweight and obesity,” Fowler tells WebMD. “What was surprising was
when we looked at people only drinking diet soft drinks, their risk of
obesity was even higher.”

“There was a 41 percent increase in risk of being overweight for every
can or bottle of diet soft drink a person consumes each day,” Fowler
says."

Some study showed that something correlated something else, with no
evidence of actual causality?

Nothing to see here, move along.

Of course diet soda makes you fat. Remember, it is still full of
carbs, which turn into sugar once you digest them.
Better off drinking water if you are serious about losing weight.

Cheers

Nope. No calories in diet pop. Carbs without calories don't do
anything even in the hocus pocus mythological world of Atkins. I eat
very high carb, very low fat, adequate protein, lots of diet pop (over
2 liters a day), and I am very thin. Diet pop doesn't do a thing
except put some caffeine and a little sodium your system. There are
lots of ideas suggesting Nutrasweet is bad for you, except there isn't
any reliable scientific information to base that idea on.

"Carbs without calories" - that would be 100% fibre surely? And I am
sure you do not get that in pop. Are you suggesting that our bodies do
not convert carbohydrate into glycogen.

It may be that you are one of those lucky people with a faster
metabolism.

Apparently you don't understand what makes diet soda diet. Instead of
using carbs (read: sugar contained in syrups), artificial sweeteners
are used. They contain little to no actual nutritional contribution,
but they mimic the taste of oh-so-delicious carbohydrates well
enough. In my experience, a lot of people, myself included, prefer
the taste of a diet soda to the full-calorie version. But that's
neither here nor there.

Diet Coke, my [generally] twice-daily sweet-tooth treat, has no
calories and no carbs*.

* - ok, technically, it does. 1.5 calories (FDA allows them to round
to the nearest 5-calorie increment, which is the 0 on the can) and
0.15g of carbs in a 12 fl oz (355mL) can. But if you're going to pick
these nits, you're a loonie.

There's no conspiracy. Diet soda says zero calories/carbs because
there are [practically] no calories/carbs.
