Got through a tough day
Yesterday I hosted a Mardi Gras party for the seniors at the center I run.
It was a big affair and I ran out of the house without breakfast. Keeping this short (sort of), I had the staff put out snack crackers, chex mix, and nuts, had hard candy on the tables, sodas, wine, and later brownies, cookies and cake for the coffee. All I had was some turkey from the lunch and a few nuts. I kept looking at the chex mix and thinking * that looks good but I don't need that*. I'll tell you in the past, with all the stress that comes with a day like that, I would have polished off a bowl of the chex mix, several *brownie bites* and some almond cookies. Plus a couple of glasses of wine. My cravings are really under control. Also, several people came up to me to ask if I'd lost weight! They're all being very supportive. In fact, one of the ladies brought me in some practically new pants 1-2 sizes smaller than I wear. She said her son had just lost 50 pounds on Atkins and wanted to know if I wanted them. It's great. They're in great shape and will make for an easy and inexpensive transition to a smaller waistline. -- - Bear Grrrrrrrr : o) 297/271/210 Highest weight 353 http://home.earthlink.net/~polarbear50/index.html |

Now the next time a stressful situation comes up you'll know you *can* avoid eating crud. Your excuse for future events is now gone cue maniacal laughter! G For future it'd be a good idea to stash some packs of nuts or other shelf stable acceptable foods in the car. That way you'll have some for the times you haven't made time to eat before you leave the house. Take care, Carmen |

Got through a tough day
Well done. Those are tough times and I probably would have had to try a
brownie. Only 4 more pounds and you will have 30 off. Next time you are around something that weighs 30 pounds, lift it. It is amazing. I know when I bring my dog food in, a 40 pound bag, I think to myself, this is the stress that was on my knees at one time and more. Keep up the good work Bear. You are going in the right direction even though you had a tough day Monday. Thanks for the reflection, Bear. I have a similar situation this evening
and your will-power and determination will be a reminder to me of the strength that lies within. Man, I can't wait to hit that 30 mark, though I've sabotaged myself all this February month. I know March is just around the corner, and so is thirty --- for me, and for you. Go for it, man! -- John Vertigan Atkins since 1/2/04 262/237/5 lbs to go in Feb/160 |

I've never been able to figure that out. Is it just a stereotype or does something change as you get older that makes it more desirable? I can see where it might help if you have a dry mouth, but it could be very hard on aging teeth if it were to be crunched, not to mention a choking hazard if it slips. Totally off-top, I know, but I'm just curious about it :-) wine. My cravings are really under control. Also, several people came up to me to ask if I'd lost weight! They're all being very supportive. What is the deal with seniors and hard candy? I've never been able to figure that out. I heard this in a Jerry Seinfeld voice. "Can someone explain this to me?" Anyway... I think it's a general trend that can be best explained by the fact that as people age, many begin to lose their teeth, and hard candy is usually meant to be sucked, not chewed. Piedlourde |
