Anyone on the list allergic to wheat?
I am having an awful time. I have about 68 pounds gone and have just been
maintaining for some time now. I just learned I am allergic to wheat. I have been struggling with severe acid reflux for years and my allergist thinks it may be related to the wheat allergy. So I am following an acid reflux diet, newly following a wheat free diet and trying to follow Weight Watchers. I am finding the special wheat free products really high in calories and some in fat. Especially "breads" and the specialty flours to make wheat free breads. I picked up on yesterday while at the health food store and the calories for one cup were about 650. I kept thinking it must be a mistake, but looking at some of the other items I don't think it was. I am in great need of some encouragement. I still have about 50 pounds to go and already I gained a pound at my last weigh-in. I know this is doable (is that a word?), but right now I am finding it all so overwhelming. Tips, bread recipes, ideas please! Autumn |

Sorry to hear about the allergy. You may find that your only option is to go
bread/flour free for a while to see if this is really the cause of your allergies. This may be easier and cheaper than trying to find substitutes that are low in points. I eat very little bread these days. Eventually you will get so that you don't miss it. "Autumn" wrote in message . .. I am having an awful time. Tips, bread recipes, ideas please! Autumn Try doing NoCount - you can use rice and potatoes for your carbs, and avoid bread and wheat products altogether for a while. Wheat/gluten free pasta is readily available too. I have a celiac friend, and she has to be very careful. I look here for ideas when she's coming over. If you look he http://www.dovesfarm.co.uk/ you will find some excellent ideas and products. Once you know what to look for, a google search will help you find some stockests in your area. Dove's Farm are excellent products, but there are other's equally good in places other than the UK. I just thought of them first because I know them (and use their rice flour and other things, which I get in my local health food store. -- Kate XXXXXX R.C.T.Q Madame Chef des Trolls Lady Catherine, Wardrobe Mistress of the Chocolate Buttons http://www.diceyhome.free-online.co.uk Click on Kate's Pages and explore! |

I don't know anything about wheat free, but I do know that after
suffering gastric reflux for close to 25 years, my gallbladder up and went and I haven't had it since. Doc said I probably had what they call sludge in my gallbladder for years until it finally went and made stones. Not fun at all, but considering now it is hard for me to stomach high fat foods and tons of sweets and I no longer have gastric reflux, I am sort of glad my gallbladder went. I feel much better. Adele Sounds much like what happened to me! I still have to stay off the high fat and sweet stuff, and I still have flare-ups of IBS, but kife is so sweet compared to Before Gallbladder Removal! -- Kate XXXXXX R.C.T.Q Madame Chef des Trolls Lady Catherine, Wardrobe Mistress of the Chocolate Buttons http://www.diceyhome.free-online.co.uk Click on Kate's Pages and explore! |

I've been experimenting with things like kamut and spelt. I can get breads made from both at my health food store and they're yeast free and not bad tasting. They're more calorie dense than regular wheat bread, but once you get used to the idea that you don't need to eat as much to feel satisfied they're really very good. I've made bread myself using spelt flour, but it's a bit of a messy process so I'll stick to the store bought stuff for those times when i just 'need' a sandwich. Thank you for the suggestions and encouragement. I have really been
struggling. Lost 2 pounds last week though! Probably because I don't know what to fix to eat. I just hate planning dinner these days, we like casserole type things, Chinese (soy has wheat), pasta, etc. I have been making plain meat and potatoes mostly. Thanks again, Autumn |
