Default SUBS for GOODIES

Much as Im loving my LC diet...I find I DO miss a couple of goodies.
Chocolate, for one, bread and icecream.

Dusty taught me that sour dough bread is lower in carbs...and a very
thin slice, every now and then.......YUM!

I have already discovered my perfect ice cream substiturte---a blend of
whipped cream, ricotta cheese and a big splash of daVinci Amaretto
flovored no-sugar syrup.
Stick in in the freezer for an hour.

my chocolate bar substitute is: melt a few squares of Baker's Chocolate
(has no sweeteners) in a double boiler. add some heavy cream and a big
splash of daVinci syrup, any flavor. I use Praline. Give it the ole
fingetr lick test to see if you want to add Splenda or more syrup. Stir
til the cream is absorbed and pour onto a buttered plate. Put it in the
fridge to harden. a 1 oz. piece is about 10 grams carb---but a half a
piece is enough to satisfy my chocolate "monkey".

The significance of these substitutes is, the ONLY things Ive been
missing are chocolate, icecream and bread. Now....I have a reasonable
carb substitute for each of these usually high carb delights.
When Im jonesing for something 'sweet", these do the trick.

Im especially pleased with my low carb chocolate---It tastes MUCH more
chocolaty than milk chocolate bars, and since it comes in a hard block,
naturally it returns to hardness when cooled. Next time, I'll try using
a wee bit more cream.....and maybe Hazlenut syrup....

I gotta get me some of that daVinci's, they probably have it at World Market
I'd think? They have everything else there...your faux ice cream sounds
excellent!

For my bread substitute I use sprout bread from the health food store, 4 gm
net and tons of fiber. It's rather pricey at $3.99/loaf but the loaf I
bought lasted me a month because I've found I don't really want bread like I
used to. Still, the occasional tuna sandwich is really tasty! But only one
of the kinds of sprout bread they carry is that low in carbs, all the others
are about double that per slice.

Blaine was making chocolate peanut butter candies on his show yesterday (a
rerun - they're all reruns now I think) -
http://fittv.discovery.com/fansites/...pbcandies.html
has his recipe if anybody is interested. They looked good to me and the
chocolate part is similar to what you're doing I think.

OK, now I'm hungry...lol. Hubby just went to the kitchen to make us some
steak'n'eggs for breakfast...I told him about your ice cream substitute and
he wants me to make to also .

Forget the bread, but chocolate LC ice cream is OK. One just has to
exercise some portion control.

the Breyers LC Rocky Road is AWESOME - it's 4g net carbs for 1/2 cup and
that is a satisfying portion.

I am finding that having a small LC treat helps me from freaking out and
binging too ) The Atkins Indulge chocolate covered coconut bars are enough
like a Mounds to make me VERY happy too! I also found something called
"Splurge!" (i think...awful name if i am right!) But it has no sugar
alcohols and i like it alot.

I am at a new weight-low and have been having 2-3 of the bars a week or some
of the ice cream. Usually at night, around 10-11 pm. I guess it's not having
a bad effect on me - although it goes against all advice i've ever gotten on
that subject. I figure if they satisfy my sugar-jones and keep me on track
AND I am still losing than I should go with it.

I had problems with binging in the past (while LCing) so "hooray" for me for
staying on plan for almost 5 weeks now!

You don't have to give up any of those...
Chocolate by itself is naturally low carb.

It's the sugar added to it that makes it bad.

You should be able to make your own low carb chocolate treats using
cocoa powder.

Bread. Yeah, I miss bread too. I usually satisfy that craving by using
low carb tortillas. ;-)
There are also low carb bake mixes if you want to try making your own.
They are ok...

Look at Rye bread sometime too.
Portion control of course is another way to handle it. G

Sounds great! I've also recently found some really decent ice cream bars
in the freezer section that have an acceptable carb content as long as I
sacrifice elsewhere on my 25 gram per day limit.

They are VERY good also! My house mate at about 3 per day until the box
was gone at only 6 grams per bar. lol I was more than happy to provide
them for him when he goes on an ice cream kick! ;-d

Ain't it grand? :-)

Now I just wish they made a sugar free Nutella.....
or I'm going to have to learn to make a substitute!

Have you ever wondered why you're fat?

"We" know why we are fat.
Your trolling commentary is a waste of bandwidth!

There is too little joy in life not to enjoy what you can and the
occasional food treat, if handled properly does more good than harm...

Constant deprivation just adds to the stresses of life.
There is nothing wrong with taking joy in food as long as one takes the
time to learn and be reasonable about it.

We, here, have taken the time and trouble to educate ourselves. There is
NO reason to totally give up treats! One just needs to learn to moderate
and substitute.

I, for one, will be low carbing for the rest of my life and have learned
to enjoy eating "healthier" for the first time in my life!

I've also lost 40 lbs. since January 4th.

I enjoy cooking and eat more variety now that I've permanently given up
the standard american starch based diet that the food pyramid has shoved
down our throats for the past 30 years or so! Most of my adult life. My
primary diet now consists mostly of fresh meat and a HUGE variety of
fresh green veggies! I've also learned that fat is not evil.

The occasional sweet treat provides a little "joy" now and then.

Rude comments are not productive. You, sir, are an asshole.

Welcome to my killfile!

Cheers!
